I Suppose I Should Probably Endorse A Presidential Candidate

banner from flickr.com/photos/xtrapop

[Currently Listening To: The Duke Spirit - Neptune]

You know our electoral process is some kind of fucked when most of the really interesting Presidential candidates have already dropped out or been swept under the rug before you even get a chance to vote. But that's a discussion for another day. Today is Super Tuesday, and although I'm probably preaching to the choir here, I feel it's worth dropping in my two cents, and saying that I feel very good about voting for Barack Obama. Oh, and I think you should too.

There are a lot of reasons Obama's an excellent choice for President. If you're a Democrat, you probably already know that. But if you're still planning to vote for Hillary, consider one very basic reason to switch to Obama: He has, unequivocally, the best chance of winning against a Republican adversary. It's looking more and more like John McCain will be the Republican candidate, and while I'd take a thousand John McCains over one Mike Fuckabee, he's still a war cheerleader, against net neutrality, is massively pro-life, and even supports the teaching of intelligent design in public schools. Oh, and did I mention he's a Republican? If that sounds eye-rollingly partisan, it's not, exactly. As dumb as it is, we do still have a two-party system in the United States, and I believe it's extremely important that we send a message to the Republican party, and more importantly, the world, to let them know that no matter who the Republican candidate is and no matter how much he separates himself from the Bush administration, we will not reward that political party for the disastrous eight years they just subjected our country to. At a time when our relationship with the rest of the world ranges from tenuous to FUBAR, no choice we make would send a message that we're ready to stop being such ignorant tools quite like a win for Obama. It may seem obvious, but symbols are hugely important, and a young, inspiring, black anti-war President with the middle name Hussein sends one hell of a fucking message. It's an olive branch to all the countries saner than ours who have watched with dropped jaws as the world's greatest nation got hijacked by a corrupt, war-mongering, right-wing hillbilly half-wit, and then we re-elected him. It's the world sighing in relief that they don't have to worry about us suddenly bombing Iran back to the stone age and starting another disaster of a war. Even if Obama doesn't live up to his promises of change, he will change the way people think about Americans from day one, because we will have finally stood up and announced, as a people, that we're not just ready for a new President - we're ready for the polar fucking opposite of George Bush.

So why, then, is Obama such a better choice than Hillary? The brilliant Lawrence Lessig makes a very clear, reasonable case for Obama here, which I encourage you to listen to as it sums up my own feelings better than I could. But what he doesn't address is the reason not to vote for Hillary even if you think she would make the best President: her electability. I don't particularly dislike Hillary Clinton, although The Ultimate Online Archive of Unflattering Hillary Clinton Photos makes her incredibly entertaining to make fun of. My favorite is this one - Hillary's terrifying "psychotic woodchuck" face and Natalie Portman's nipples in the same photo makes my penis very confused. Anyway, a lot of people irrationally despise Hillary. She is extremely polarizing, and for one reason or another, she's become the great Republican terror. This Huffington Post editorial makes a strong case for what I've been saying all along: the Republican hatred of Hillary will unite them and energize them against her - choosing her as the Democratic candidate is the best thing the Republicans could ask for. The right wing isn't exactly excited bout McCain, but they're insane at the very thought that Hillary Clinton might be President. They'd rather have gay sex in a church while performing abortions with a crucifix than vote for Hillary. Obama has a wider appeal, particularly to independents and even some Republicans. He's the best hope we have, and unfortunately with the stakes as they are, that's really the only reason any Democrat should need. Thankfully, I also think Obama would make the best President, so I don't have to feel like I'm just voting for the lesser of two evils.

And now, here's the cynicism you've been waiting for: I hope I'm wrong, I really hope I do, but I fear that as strong as Obama is, in the end our country just can't ignore its centuries-old hard-on for old white men. We're still a nation of bigots, and as that lovable, backwards-ass fifty one percent of our population who chose to re-elect Bush steps into the voting booth, thinking in spite of themselves that maybe Barack Obama would make a great President, they're going to pause, and look at the familiar old white man with his POW story and his love of unborn fetuses, and they're going to remember that they really don't like black people all that much... and say hello President McCain. I hope I'm wrong. I really do. But as much as I believe Obama should be our President, and as convinced as I am that he has a better chance of winning than Hillary, I fear that when all is said and done, our stupid, stupid country just isn't ready for that much change.

Prove me wrong, America.

Very true. My hope is that most people will be willing to elect a Democrat because they aren't a Republican, no matter if the Democratic candidate is black or not. My biggest problem with Hillary is exactly what you said - nothing will make the Republican base more rabid than another Clinton, specifically that cold bitch Hillary, in office again.

I like Hillary, and it pains me slightly that I'm not ready to get behind her fully, but the problem goes beyond her electability. The dynasty of Bush-Clinton-Bush and possibly Clinton again doesn't lend itself to different ideas in politics, where new ideas to solving problems are needed these days.

Anyway, those are my thoughts, and I'll stop making your comments section my own personal soap box.

I'd just like to point out that the electoral college is really the the best way to run an election considering the major fuck ups that wold happen if states had to resort to cheating in order to get the most electoral votes for their favored candidate. Our history is filled with cases of electoral manipulation.
Just watch Gangs of New York. If you give the state all the electoral votes just for getting a 51 percent majority it discourages vote manipulation. In other words unless we can figure out a way to end cheating, allowing all the states to "cheat" makes for a much more fair election. That probably didn't make much sense but yeah. plus if it weren't for the electoral college Lincoln would have never been elected. Comprende? If the electoral votes were split up amongst one state Jefferson Davis' racist supporters would hve stolen many of Lincoln electoral votes in the states where he won. Therefore Lincoln would have lost and Obama wouldn't be standing here today.

That is great it was a good system in 1860, but, um, I don't know if you got the fax, but rather much has changed since then, and like the rest of the industrialized nations, we need to change our system as well if it is going to serve us properly.

As an european, I fear Obama's international skills are bound for failure. In Europe, economists are already reviewing the current american - and, therefore, world - crisis as the big push towards the shift for economic supremacy of China. It will take someone better then Obama to due damage control for America. Yes, I agree. We too gasped at your amazing stupid Bush reelection. We watched the - to us - obviously faked Bush win over Gore in Florida. Only to american eyes, glued to FOX, did it seem a possibility. Voting with dots run by a machine? Wowaaaaa.

Nevertheless, I respect Rob's opinion. He, more thean many, knows how to make a case. And furthermore, he is almost impossibly handsome. And the beautiful ones, they always get the best of ya :)

"Cold bitch Hillary", so is written in a comment. Well, thats it, basically: America doesn't vote with reason, it votes with tabloid induced TV endorsed paranoia. God bless America.

As a woman, I'd love to see a woman president but I don't think it's ever going to be Hilary's time. She's capable but she has the wrong last name. I'm going to support Obama while I can but I also fear in the end we'll end up with McCain as president.

I was disappointed Kicinich dropped out before Super Tuesday. For the primaries I always vote my conscience. As much as I would love to see a woman in the white house, Hilary is not the woman. I've had a problem with her arrogance since her husband's administration. Sure she may lean more in my direction than the current administration but she owes too many favors and is not a "unite-er". Right now this country truly needs someone that can talk common sense to the people and all parties involved. In my mind Obama is the next logical choice. I must admit after hearing Dr. Lessig's point of view it gives me more comfort with that decision.

Unfortunately, I share your cynicism about our country. Look at how well Huckabee did last night.

If we end up with Obama-Clinton, or Clinton-Obama, that will be light-years ahead of where we are now. I'm not keen on political dynasties (Bush or Clinton) but at this point it's Anyone But a Repuglican.

I share your hopes and anxieties this election, though as always, your words are so much more well put together than my own.

I'm not the most political of personalities ... though I must admit to having informed my mother that she should vote for the Democratic candidate every election since I could speak, despite being completely unaware of the party system--I simply disliked the look of the opposing candidates. Yesterday afternoon, I pleaded Obama's case to my indecisive mother before she left to vote.
I turn 18 in June, so I didn't get to vote yesterday, but I will definitely be voting come November.

I'm tired of being disappointed with the state of things. Here's to Obama '08.

RE: Gay issues - my thoughts on that are summed up pretty well here: http://www.demonbaby.com/blog/2006/11/dont-get-too-excited-part-two-were.html

To summarize: if you think gay couples should have their legal rights restricted by the government in any way, you're a bigoted hunk of fuck, period - and thank you religious right for making this a political issue at all.

RE: Stolen elections - I don't doubt for a second that vote manipulation was going on during Bush's re-election. When you look at companies like Enron, and the shady shit they'll pull to ensure higher profits, you have to think about how much private sector money would have been at stake if Bush had left office. Between his unprecedented war profiteering, private contracting, and happy manipulation of policy for special interests, Bush is a cash cow for a lot of big companies and industries. With that amount of money and power at stake, the people who *really* run this country wouldn't dare leave anything to chance. It's not a crazy conspiracy theory, it's just capitalism - but we're supposed to have leaders with enough integrity to keep capitalism out of the government. That said, vote manipulation could only go so far, and even if there was a great deal of fraud, you can bet that nearly half of the country STILL voted for Bush's re-election, which is depressing no matter how you look at it.

RE: Ron Paul - I was never a believer in the Ron Paul "revolution." I understood why he appealed to people - his anti-war stance, his integrity and his straight-talking honesty were all commendable. But I think too many of his rabid fans were so enamored by someone actually telling the truth for a change, that they latched on to his integrity without taking a serious look at his libertarian policies. I personally think laissez-faire economics are more dangerous than ever with the increasing power of multi-national corporations, and Paul's dramatic plans to eliminate the Federal government were an invitation for bigger companies to own more and more of what we see, think, use, and eat. I'm not championing government regulation, either - I think government and the free market need to keep each other in check - checks and balances just like the branches of our government. This ultimately goes back to my belief that the only way we'll EVER have an honest government with the interests of the people in mind is to eliminate campaign financing entirely - but that's a discussion for another time.

But anyway, on the internet the Ron Paul fanfare was loud enough that from an outside perspective you'd think he was a much bigger contender than he actually was. But just like Kucinich, and Mike Gravel, Paul was too radical to get any attention from the mainstream media, which sadly still controls the opinions of most of our country. It's a shame - I may not personally support Ron Paul's politics, but having people like him, Kucinich, and Gravel able to participate more in the mainstream election process would bring a lot of intelligence and some much-needed edge to our homogenized infomercial of a political system.

Hey rob,

I've been following the election closely this year, and while no candidate has really impressed me, Obama infuriates me the most. It's partly him, but it's also his devoted supporters who talk about how revolutionizing he could be by being the first black man to take office. And while I agree, it will certainly shake up white america if he wins, there is something I don't get and something you happen to leave out: His policies.
What are Obama's ideas for progressing the US economy? What is his actual plan for getting us out of Iraq? I get that he wants universal health care, but how does he propose to reach that?
Maybe I am missing something, but to me, it seems he is a cubic zirconium candidate. By that I mean he shines like the real thing, but there is no real worth or substance underneath that top layer. I have talked with many Obama supporters, and none yet have been able to give me a clear reponse as to what this guy's policies are. He certainly is articulate, but he doesn't seem to have a definite plan for anything either. I don't know, I never saw him as that great of a candidate to begin with, and my opinion has yet to change. He lacks experience, he does not seem to have any real plans for change other then "I'm black, so everybody just trust me on this one", and the whole former dope fiend thing is a bit discouraging, though that is a minute factor. At least with Hilary I know where she stands, and some of her plans are actually very good, while others are just farfetched. The same is true for McCain, and I don't think he is that terrible a candidate. So please Rob, enlighten me more about Obama, because I sure as shit am not about to put my vote towards a fucking "symbol". So go ahead, tell me about Obama's plans for getting out of Iraq, health care reform, public education, and everything else. I'll be waiting.

Uh, where did I say I was pro-life? Free abortion clinics on every block, as far as I'm concerned. I think you read something wrong.

And to the "anonymous" person, regarding Obama's policy: I think I made it pretty clear I'm not voting policy. If I was voting policy I'd vote Kucinich, or Gravel, but those are not options. I'm not a rabid Obama supporter, I've chosen him by process of elimination which is laid out very clearly in the post. I understand your point that he's not as clear about his specific policies as the other two, but if you do a bit of research, he does have some good policies - the links Nick posted above are a good start. He's the strongest on technology, which is very dear to me, and just the other day the Wall Street Journal praised his health care policy over Hillary's: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120234937353949449.html?mod=opinion_main_review_and_outlooks

But again, even if Hillary did have better policies, I don't care, because I don't think she can beat McCain, and I think Obama can. McCain can be as clear about his policies as he wants to be, but I still don't like them. He supported the war since day one, he'll get us entrenched into more shit, and despite his appeal to moderates, he's still just a continuation of Bush ideologies, and I think rewarding that is a terrible mistake.

And as for the "inexperience" claim, that's the label that got tacked onto him by the opposition and spoon-fed to the media, who repeated it enough that now people actually fear that about him. You know who had a LOT of experience? Cheney. Rumsfeld. And they orchestrated one of the most colossal fuck-ups in our country's history. So maybe a little "inexperience" would do us some good.

I'm not naive enough to buy into Obama's promises for drastic change, as many of his supporters do. That shows how desperate people are for change, but it's not as simple as Obama - or any candidate - makes it sound. I don't think ANY candidate is going to radically change anything with policy, and the actual policy differences between Obama and Hillary are pretty insignificant. At least with Obama's ideologies, his inspirational quality, his speaking ability, I think he can change perceptions. But I think either candidate could, at the very least, bring us back up to zero, and that's all I'm really looking for at this point.

Of course, I live in a guaranteed blue state (and apparently a Hillary state), so my vote doesn't really mean shit come November. I love how Florida of all places always decides our fucking elections.

As a generally-apathetic American who is not even registered to vote, I also dig Obama. But my reason is grossly irrational and totally unjustifiable.

I fucking HATE Hillary Clinton.

Didn't care for her smug, harpy face while she was in the White House, but the real rage began when she ran for the NY Senate... and won. On what grounds? That she had been an active lawyer (with little trial experience), had never lived in the state before, and thus had no idea what NY was about? I'm more qualified than she is. At least I have 31 years of experience living in the fucking state of New York.

I cannot stand her as an individual, and, frankly, don't trust a woman to run this country. That's right. My gender is a frigging embarrassment, and I have yet to meet a female who I thought could put aside decades of social conditioning and maybe not do things like CRY in front of 8000 news cameras. If Obama or McCain had snivelled in public that they were tired and that it was haaaaard, I'd think they were punk-ass pussies, too. But they didn't.

That being said, I have a weird sort of affection for McCain. I wouldn't vote for him, mind you, and we have grossly opposing viewpoints in several areas. I just think that he - if elected - would end up being an okay president. Less likely to destroy America the way Bush has, and less likely to commit blatantly illegal acts, also the way Bush has.

So. Yeah. I'm in the "Anyone But Hillary" camp.

But please feel free to vote for me if I ever lose my fucking mind and run, because, while I am biologically a woman, I am a terrible heartless jerk who hates everyone. Also, Rob will be my Veep, and we are going to have the most bad-ass administration in history.

This is the reason why I'm so terrified that more and more "young people" are voting. Our generation is so easily swayed by media bias, campaign speeches, and party affiliation, that we often forget how these candidates have voted in the past. I'm not going to sit here and spew who I think you should vote for. It's not my place. But at least make an informed and intelligent decision when you go to the polls in November. For fuck's sake, who gives a shit if someone's black or a woman. Hell, there's even a black woman running for president. Did you know that? All that matters is policy. Who best expresses the views you hold? Hell, Bill Clinton sold nuclear secrets to China, as well as countless other sordid affairs (no pun intended). Does that mean that all other Dems are the same way? Absolutely not. I really don't understand why people believe that Obama is so much more electable than Hillary. I mean, it may look that way now - but just wait until he gets the nomination and the repubs turn on him. Up until now they've been too busy ripping Hillary apart while the media is licking Obama's asshole, but once she's out of the picture he is going to be fucked. She has already had every possible speck of dirt dug up on her, and been viciously attacked by both republicans AND democrats for over a decade and she's still standing. Obama has gotten comfortable being the ~*inspirational*~ golden boy, but when it gets down to the general election shit is going to get real ugly real quick and I'm not sure he can handle it.

It's just depressing to see so many people swayed by inspiration & charisma over sheer intelligence. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised... that's what got Bush elected.

That being said, while I'm obviously voting Hillary in the primaries, I have no problem voting Obama if he gets the nom. Any democrat trumps McCain's crazy pro-war, anti-abortion, pro-Patriot Act ass.

Seriously though, the "lol America is dumb/racist/fat" shit is getting old. I would think someone who's travelled the world would realize that there are people just as dumb, racist and fat (okay, maybe not fat) everywhere else.

I do disagree with you on a few points here. One of the reasons Republicans dislike Hillary is because she claims to have experience that she doesn't really have. Since when does being the Presidents wife for eight years add eight years of experience to her knowledge?

I felt impartial to Barack Obama until a few days ago, when his Houston headquarters were found with a Cuban flag with "Che" Guevara on it. As a Cuban-American, this scarred me to the point of no return and here's where it gets een better: even though Barack Obama said not to worry about the "Che" flag because it's not considered an official headquarters location, why didn't he didn't mention "Che" Guevara in his statement about the unofficial HQ? Maybe because he still wants to maintain his support from the "Che" fans? And he said that he's for the embargo, but what about in 2004 when he said that he was against it? Is he a flip-flopper too, just the way liberals saw Romney to be a flip-flopper? My line of thought is saying yes.

Although we disagree politically, I can tell you that I agree with you on one point, and like you, I think it's sad. I think it's sad that America isn't ready for a black President yet. I know I am, but unfortunately, America isn't. I've come to sadly accept the fact that if Obama becomes President, there will be assassination attempts, and I've come to the fact that if Obama becomes President, racists will dislike him PURELY for the color of his skin, even if he is as conservative or liberal as they are.

I'm a conservative who's open minded, and that's why I've given my support to Alan Keyes.

Alan Keyes- are you high?

And to the person who isn't even registered to vote- you have no right to complain.

I am a Democrat, and do not see the allure of Obama. How can even be considered charismatic, or compared to JFK. Sure, JFK was banging hookers in the White House, and probably wouldn't have had such a great legacy, if he hadn't be assassinated. He resonated because he was handsome and charming- I do not see the comparison with Obama- is he hot to someone? Oprah Winfrey's husband?

People, like the author of this post and comments, are choosing a candidate merely because he's an excellent talk show host- look at his voting record. Yes, he didn't vote for the war in Iraq- but he took a calculated risk in doing so, and clutches to it. Look at his overall voting history. Someone else said that he will fall apart if he gets the nomination, and I agree.

I loved the Clinton White House- things were good for the country and myself- why has everyone forgotten about 8 years of prosperity and relative peace? I want the architect for universal health care, someone who knows how to play the game in Washington. she's been around long enough- she'll get the kitchen in order without Oprah Winfrey eating everything in it.

My 2 cents, kiddies.

I wouldn't trust a Democrat any more than I would trust a Republican. The Democrat controlled Senate passed a bill making it ok to spy on US citizens, just like the White House wants. They are all asshats.

That said, the single biggest reason Barrak Hussein Obama can't win is because he has a name that, whether fair or not, is the name of a terrorist.

Think about the Republican modus operandi the last few years. John McCain was made to look like a pussy in 2000 even though that dude was a POW. No matter how crazy he is now (and anyone who spent time as a POW is allowed to be a little nuts, I think), if valiantly serving your country can be used against you, anything can be.

Same thing happened to Kerry. He was awarded all kinds of medals, yet he was made out to be a weak kneed coward, while someone who basically dodged the draft via the Air Guard made out like a bandit (and don't even get me started on Rather's memo problems considering the last word I heard was that Air Guard guy's former secretary said that wasn't the memo she typed, but she typed one that had the same information in it...although that all just faded away).

So, like I said, America won't vote for a terrorist for president...at least not a brown one. That dooms Obama. A vote for Obama is a vote for four more years of Republican rule, whether you admit it to yourself or not.

Your point is well taken that it is depressing that near half the country voted for bush in 2004, even if the vote was hacked. But I would say half the voters, not the country. Hopefully Obama is bringing out the people who are usually too jaded to vote.

And to all the Hillary people--I think Hillary is o.k., but she IS polarizing, and I can see a lot of people switching their vote from Obama to McCain before voting for Hillary (who, since it was mentioned, probably has the biggest dick of the three). There are polls that support that Obama is the better candidate against McCain--it's not just a feeling.

I also think Obama will be able to handle the swift-boaters better than Kerry. Kerry was acting too much like the political animal he is, trying to windsurf in the center all the time, too timid to nip that shit in the bud. I think Obama has been really good about acknowledging criticisms and then booting them out of the park.

It doesn't seem fair that only Americans get to vote in your elections.

US policy affects the whole world, so, unless that's going to change any time soon and the US gets back within its borders, we want a say too :D

Seriously though, as we move more towards a global nation, why not?

Just read your "death of oink" rant by the way; awesome =)

To Brian:

You're an idiot. To call someone out simply for their name is ridiculous. OMG, Obama is close to Osama etc etc, therefore he's going to nuke us all! And Obama isn't 'brown' he's half black and he was raised in Hawaii. If you haven't noticed there's surprisingly a large amount of white people voting for him. He's like crack to middle class families. If someone told me a year ago from today that a young biracial Democrat might be the next president, I would've laughed in your face. America has proved me wrong. No one seems to realize how huge it is that he's even gotten this far! And if he does in fact get the Democratic vote and goes up against McCain, it's BIG step for Americans.

There's no point to your comments, what do you want to do? Obama is a hidden terrorist and the other candidates are made out to be pussies, ok we got that, now what?

My point is that I don't care how much better McCain might be compared to Bush (which isn't that much) I really hope America isn't stupid enough to vote for a fucking Republican again. I don't care if it's Hil or Obama to be honest because I'd take either one of them in a heartbeat but it's no secret that Obama has the best chance of winning against the Republicans. So unless you can come up with a more legit argument against Obama other than he's a 'terrorist', please shut your trap. I'm so sick of people like you bitching about how every candidate no matter who it is will doom us all.

Anonymous,

I didn't call him out for his name. I am just telling you what I think will happen based on copious amounts of watching and covering the news as a journalist.

And to be honest, I found the job to be pretty reprehensible. So much so that I quit and joined the Peace Corps so I could actually try to do some good in the world and restore some respect to the term "American."

If you honestly think people, Democrat or Republican, are honorable enough not to use whatever they can against Obama, then you haven't read the news this week where "someone" leaked a photo of Obama in Kenya wearing Somali clothes or the Republican talk radio host already starting the campaign I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. (read here: http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/02/26/702467.aspx and see here: http://youtube.com/?v=WVS4qzXpB0A )

If you want to get worked up, you shouldn't call me an idiot for being psychic. You should get out there and try to make a difference in this yourself.

The only part of my prediction I can be wrong about right now is Obama being elected. The rest has started coming true. If you're up to the challenge, prove that Americans are smarter than I think they are.

Oh just look at this shiny thing in my left hand while i gut you with my right. and they fall for it every time. all kept so busy and constantly stressed and constantly wanting more possessions that none of you have the time to sit down and really THINK any more. ask yourself, who does that benefit the most?

I will vote McCain over Obama in the general election, though I find myself in direct opposition with several of McCain's viewpoints (namely the border and patriot act), I will not give my vote to Obama. The man honestly believes Al'Qaeda does not have a presence in Iraq at the moment, but has said if Al'Qaeda gains a stronghold in Iraq, he will re-enter after pulling out immediately. Al'Qaeda is in Iraq! Because of Petraeus' leadership, we were able to mobilize Sunni and Shite tribal leaders together to fight together against the common enemy: Al'Queda in Iraq. Unfortunately, some politicians in Iraq are oblivious to the situation in Iraq. Obama's one of them.

Obama wants to be commander and chief but he can't comprehend basic ground truths about the war. This man is not only naive and ignorant, but he is also incompetent and irresponsible. Obama would have us immediately pull out of Iraq and into Pakistan. Then he'll realize that Al'Qaeda (who are currently having their asses kicked in Anbar and Diyala) will seize Iraq (once there's no american troops) in one effortless swoop. Then guess what happens. "Oh shit, lets go back in and waste a shitload of lives and go back to square one, when we could have just finished what that crazy psycho Bush started". What's his excuse gonna be? Send in the UN? The UN is fucking broken, it is dead collective ensemble of corrupt politicians from a broad spectrum of political and ethnic backgrounds.

And sorry, but Obama has done nothing to deserve my respect. McCain's appearing to be the only logical choice (which is a sad commentary about the current state of politics in the world).

But hey, I could be wrong. Maybe Obama is a fucking miracle worker and I'm just the ignorant one. Maybe he understands the situation in Iraq better then the top military generals who are fighting the battles. Maybe it's his broad ethnic background that gives him that kind of insight. Cause we all know this is not really a military or political issue, but it's a touchy-feely liberal issue of bigotry and islamophobia blah blah.

I think Obama's popularity is a prime example of America's sheepish mentality... bahing to the sounds of his eleqount blank rhetoric. Though there's really nothing to elequont about the words hope and change being repeated an absurd amount.

Oh, and let's not forget Obama's lies about NAFTA. Say one thing on TV, say another on private phone calls.

The next US President will definitely have a huge crappy economic mess - the Iraq War will be the least of the problems.

Does anyone remember Clinton's 2nd presidential term after he (and others in his staff he appointed of course) cleaned up the shi@#y mess that Bush Sr and Co. left behind. People thought that strong economy was going to last for the next 20 years but then W took over and managaed to screw things up.

Whoever Ms. Adam's Apple Ann Coulter is endorsing (Hilary in this case) should not be running. Even though she might be telling others to vote for Clinton as a joke, maybe she just wants a Democrat/lady/or black to get the blame for the rotten crappy economy for which the Republicans are entirely responsible.

Speaking of rotten and crappy stuff, please check out this link.

Does anyone out there know if this Coulter story is true? Or is it meant to be fiction rich with symbolic imagery? Whether it is real or not, it is gross as hell and it will make the reader want to vomit.

I don't usually believe in these types of things, but hell thought I'd just share it with the class. I'd recently heard from a friend that an old man back in greece or wherever he was about 400 years ago named Notradomus[sp] would predict things like Bush being president, the holicaust, 9/11, etc... And he had predicted that Obama would be not only the pesident but also the anti-christ that brings the world to it's end. It's kind of scary because his name means Blood in a different language. I forget which. They ran on a different calandar back when this old fart was alive and he predicted the world ending in the year 1999. Well, obama will be in office in the year of 2012. dun-dun-dunnn. Lol weird thing to think about.

I think Nostradamus was actually a French guy, but not sure. I don't believe in all that psychic/predicting future crap, personally, and no offense to people who do. What I do predict is that the US economy is going to go down the commode if things and priorities don't change. It doesn't take a psychic to figure that out, hopefully. (I thought Wayne Newton was the anti Christ for some reason.)

Yeah the economy of the US is getting ridiculous. I used to live in california and I was forced to move out of state because of the housing bubble and expenses of stuff out there. I was having a conversation with a friend earlier about Arnold being the governor of Calif. I was saying that I couldn't believe the people of california elected this idot into office. He disagreed and told me that he's done wonders for the profit in California, saying that they were profiting tremendously over the expenses there. Sure, California profits but what about the middle class that lives/lived there? Pretty soon the only ones who will be able to afford living there are the rich and famous. It's just not fair for the ones who grew up there and call it home but can no longer do that because of the expenses of living there!

On Hillary:
"Susan Fiske at Princeton has demonstrated that people's stereotypes about women tend to fall along two disparate dimensions: warmth and competence.... people tend to evaluate female leaders unfavorably because the traits that people typically associate with women (e.g. warm, caring, nurturance) are antithetical to the traits people typically associate with good leaders (e.g. strong and assertive)."

This is an interesting bit of psychology and worth being aware of. However, I'd still be voting for Obama to break the Bush/Clinton dynasty. How it even arose through a 'democratic' process is beyond me.

This isn't about Democracy or the Republic. This is about Israel and all of this shit is for Israel. If you don't believe me, then that's your choice. But wake the fuck up and look at the real problem.

It's great to see someone sane speak up. Seeing what's going on - (actually, what has been going on for years now) - in America is worrying. There's so much ignorance. When I was younger I always thought of the US as a "cool" country, mainly because of the somewhat Americanized culture we have in Sweden, I suppose. Since all we saw as young kids over here was the Hollywood/LA/California culture - something we thought of as fun, happy-happy sparklyland where everyone is open-minded - that's what we identified America with. Now that I'm older I know better, and it was shocking for me to see how narrow-minded a lot of the Americans are.

The USA is one of the largest countries in the world with one of the most culturally diverse populations, if not the most, and I thought that was enough to cause people to be more aware of their situation somehow. My sister is American, though, raised in Sweden. I went to an American, Christian boarding school while I lived in South Korea and met plenty of Americans. My point here is, they all lived somewhere else and were exposed to different cultures - and I think that made them more aware of how the world is, rather than just living in a big box called America without seeing how people live in the rest of the world and how they think.

I'm not saying you're all morons, obviously. It's great to see Americans who are able to think outside the box, see the bigger picture. Being an outsider, I may not know more than what I hear about on the news here, but your country is pretty fucked up and I sincerely hope Obama gets elected and changes how people think.

ps. Something totally irrelevant - The Duke Spirit! Good, good.
